penny 的中文意思是「便士」，是英国最小的货币单位

英译：【British，Old-fashioned，Politeness】If someone says they are going to spend a penny, they mean that they are going to go to the toilet.

所以 spend a penny 并不是要买什么东西，而是「小便」的礼貌用语，就像中文说的「要去方便一下」

Do you want to spend a penny before we leave?

我们出发之前你想先方便一下吗？

英译：Very different from one another, totally or nearly opposite in nature.

中文意思是「迥然不同」，chalk是教学工具 而 cheese 是食物，这两种事物本质上就不一样，所以我们会用be like chalk and cheese 来形容两个人迥然不同或完全不合拍。

My daughters are like chalk and cheese these days——one loves baseball and the other loves ballet.

我两个女儿的喜好截然不同，一个喜欢棒球，另一个则喜欢芭蕾。

英译：Speak or write at length in a vague or trivial manner.

中文意思是「唠叨；空话连篇」，华夫饼 “waffle” 是一种点心，是不少人钟爱的食品。由 “waffle + on” 组成的动词短语 “waffle on” 可描述人在生活中含糊其词，絮叨地讲述没有意思的事情。

I ask him a question but he just go waffle on.

我问了他一个问题，但他一直胡扯个没完。

英译：To do something exceptionally well and with a great amount of skill. Primarily heard in UK.

这个说法多用于描述体育比赛中某人的表现特别精彩，有时也可以用于描述人们在日常生活和工作中全面展示技能，表现极佳。

英译：Slang, bcome drunk.

piss 本来是「小便」的意思，但 pissed 在美式英式英文的意思可是大相迳庭！美式英文的 pissed 是「生气的」，通常后面会加上 off；而英是英文的 pissed 则是「醉的」，所以 Let’s get pissed 字面上的意思是「一起醉吧」，也就是人家在邀请你一起去喝酒，不是叫你一起生气啦！

Hang in there! Friday is coming! Let’s get pissed after work!

撑下去啊！就要星期五了，我们下班后一起去喝一杯吧！

英译：To tease, mock, or ridicule (someone or something)

take the mickey 的来源已不可考，但跟卡通的米奇没有关系！它的意思是「取笑；嘲笑；揶揄某人」，这句短语是 take the piss (out of sb./sth.) 较委婉的说法，因为 piss 的意思是「尿；小便」，听起来较不文雅，两个短语义同于 tease、mock、poke fun at sb.。

It really hurt Steph~q~s feelings to know that the group had been taking the mickey out of her that whole time.

当Steph知道整个小组这段时间一直都背着她嘲笑她的时候，她很伤心。

口语君最后再加一个简单好用的词：Briliant!

这可是英国人天天挂在嘴边的词，在美式英文中 briliant 意为「色彩鲜艳的；明亮的」，但英国人是在称赞某件事「很赞；棒极了」，就像美国人说 Great!、Nice! 。
